Surgical Admissions
What you need to know when you are bringing your pet in for day surgery :
1. Do not feed your pet after 9pm the night before admission. Water is ok.
2. Please fill in the anaesthetic consent pre-admission form. Details such as your day contact phone numbers, any previous medical problems or drug reactions are important.
3. Please take your dog to the toilet prior to admission - this will make your pet's stay more comfortable!
Most pets are given tranquillisers to make anaesthesia smooth and less stressful. In addition 6 hour pain relief drugs are routinely given with the premed. For many surgical procedures we also recommend additional 24 hour pain relief - please discuss this with the nurse at admission.
Please feel free to phone about your pet's progress after mid-day. We will always phone you prior to this if we encounter any circumstances that require additional discussion. Discharge is normally 3.00pm till 6.30pm depending on the type of surgery. For complex cases we would like you to name a specific time for pickup so the Veterinarian can discuss your pet's care.
