REPEAT PRESCRIPTIONS
Veterinarians have the privilege of being able to prescribe both Veterinary and human medications to animals under our care. With this come legal and ethical responsibilities.
Many long term medications have the potential for adverse reactions. This means that we cannot legally prescribe a medication indefinitely without examining the treated pet. This period may vary from 3 months to 1 year depending on the medication and the pet's age and health. This may simply coincide with annual vaccination and examination but please be aware you may be asked to visit with your pet before receiving further medication.
Pets on most chronic medication are advised to have a blood test once a year to check for side effects and possible interaction with other health problems that may be occurring.
Please phone in advance for your prescription to prevent waiting while it is prepared.

HOSPITAL / KENNELS / WARD
Most anaesthetic drugs will reduce blood pressure to some degree and this increases the risk of chilling. We use bubble wrap under the animals to reduce heat loss onto the stainless steel table during surgery. After surgery your pet will go into cages with under floor heating and be covered with fleece blankets. The air conditioning in the Kennel Room also keeps the temperature ideal year round.
Kennel Staff come into the Clinic specifically to scrub, clean and sterilise the hospital cages and Clinic floors every operating day.

LABORATORY
Many patients require blood, urine and tissue tests. We are one of a small number of Vet Clinics with an onsite IDEXX blood chemistry/haematology machine that allows us to provide you with an accurate assessment of yours pets condition quickly.
Some special tests and tissue samples for bacteriology and histology are sent to the outside laboratory. Most results are available within 24 hours.
